The Catskill Fire Department has roots back to the 1840's when Company One was formed. It was followed in 1886 by Company 2 and in 1889 Company 5 was formed. The Department ran this way until March 11, 2003 when the Village of Catskill Board of Trustees decided to consolidate the Catskill Fire Department from three separate fire companies into one new consolidated Department. The members of Hose Co. No. 1 Inc., A.M. Osborn Hose Co. No. 2 Inc. and Citizens Hose Co. No. 5 Inc. merged and voted to incorporate the Catskill Fire Department.

The "West End" Station is located at 1 Central Ave where the majority of apparatus is housed. 422 Main St. is a second station housing misc. equipment and the parade rigs.

Currently Jack Ormerod Sr. is the department chief.

The Catskill Fire Department held an open house and wetdown on Sunday July 19,2009. The event  was to honor and welcome their new Tower Ladder T-315, a 2008  Sutphen 1500/300/0/95' Bucket.
The festivities began at 1PM with an open house to view all the District Fire Equipment and fire station.  At 2PM ceremonies were opened with a convocation and a welcome from Chief of Department Jack Ormerod Sr. and First Assistant Chief Jonathan Dees and Second Assistant Chief Paul PD Ormreod Jr.
Following the ceremony, the truck was christened and the wetdown began. Ladders from City of Hudson Fire and Athens Fire doused the new rig while Tankers from Becraft and West Athens supplied the water. Hudson Engine 30, Catskill's Mutual Aid FAST Unit, participated using handlines from their Engine.
Refreshments were supplied by the Host Department and were enjoyed by all.
During the ceremony, a hand-made quilt was donated to the Department by Bernice and JB Barnett. Mrs. Barnett hand made the quilt to show here appreciation for all their fine work throughout the years.
